Mainzer Virtuosi

The Mainzer Virtuosi was founded in 2007 and is centered around the outstanding young violinists who are studying at the Hochschule fuer Musik Mainz in the class of Prof. Anne Shih. There are 15 violinists from age 16 to 26 who come from Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Korea, Romania, and Russia, many of whom won distinctions at national and international competitions, or are recipients of special scholarships.

The Mainzer Virtuosi perform mainly repertoire for one or more violins, with or without piano/cembalo, but on occasion expand to include lower strings for performances of beloved works such as the Vivaldi Four Seasons. Works for solo violin include those by Bach, Paganini, Ysaye, Bartok Prokofiev, Kreisler, Penderecki, Biber, and Hétu. Violin sonatas include the great works by Beethoven, Brahms,Mozart, Schumann, Schubert, Elgar, Grieg, Prokofiev, Hindemith, Franck, Debussy, etc. but also less heard masterpieces by Robert Hahn, Britten, Enesco, Schnittke, etc.

Works for multiple violins include those by Telemann, Vivaldi, Handel, Bach. Sarasate, Maurer, and Bacewicz.
